Dear Student,

The enclosed is a faithful transfer to paper of Dick's argument to you just as I read it in his mind

I can read the student's mind when I get roused to it, and am in no wise beaten As Written: beatten yet My wings, that the Revelator sawRev 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. , are growing. I shall rise to where they can do me no harm, I am almost there now, the furnace is bringing out the goldEditorial Note: There are numerous passages in the Bible regarding the refining process wherein “dross” is removed from silver and gold in a refiner’s furnace. Christians came to view this as a metaphor for spiritual growth. and fulfilling the scripture “all things shall work together for good to them that love God" and who are the called according to this purpose”Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Spofford has adopted Dick's policy to ensnare you before he strikes his blow again at you

But making you sick in body by poison, is far less an injury to you than to poison your mind in regard to the fountain whence you drew your ability to heal and do right, — but not wrong If anything is sacred it is the promise you gave me before I consented to your studying; "that you would not follow in their footsteps but would help us out of our trials instead of into new ones"

The words of the Revelator who saw this hour was. The "Dragon stood ready to devour the child as soon as he was born"Rev 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. . — Dick has done this; — he it was whose silent argument As Written: agument ruined Spofford as well as his wife; the proof is, he sent Wallace W. Wright to my house in my absence to try to influence Spofford against me; they succeeded at last on the most unjust issue. I had done everything for him, as he himself owned, but because I would not let him go on swindling me, as soon as I opened my eyes to see it, he turned into the course he threatened. The three named in the Revelations — are Dick the dragon, Wallace W. Wright, and Spofford else it is you It is all revealed to me, and I know my course now but I cannot yet admit you are the one the Revelator named as the third one and shall try as I have done to show you the way to defend yourself from being "devoured as soon as born" so long as you do right hereafter

Dick's argument or lie that he is daily whispering into your mind will bear fruit unless you watch and see how you are thinking and feeling.

You know that Gilbert and I have been friends to you such as you never had before, and you know a betrayal is dangerous in friendship, he had asked you not to consult me on the sick because he saw I had all I could bear at that time would you not have done the same? And As Written: and would you have overlooked as he did a betrayal of his trust in your promise? I am only speaking of this to open your eyes to do justice in your thoughts and not let Dick, or any selfishness of your own suffer you to overlook the fact that "we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us."Matt 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Luke 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. My husband has been generous, true and confiding with you, has he not? Answer As Written: answer for yourself and let your own beautiful sense of justice that I have so much loved settle that question forever, and let us three remain as we are, friends for life, not for an hour or a few weeks when some advantage is sought.

Now dear Student, I am taking this forenoon to do you good, when my printer is waiting for me to send the correctionsEditorial Note: This is a reference to corrections to the proofs of the second edition of Science and Health, published in October 1878., is this "minding my own business and staying at home as you requested"? which I shall decide about doing just as I see is best for you and best for the cause; we can say naughty things but we must not do them. I shall have patience with your temperament for I like it, if you are not "devoured as soon as born" and turned away from justice and Truth by the Dragon

Does the stream separate from its fountain and not dry up?

Dick knows, and so does Spofford that if they can turn you into their channel and against us, that you are without any fountain until you rise higher than you now are, and then nothing could separate us. They also know that with your smartness, if you are upheld by me, that the bookEditorial Note: Science and Health which is a wide advertisement will be at your back supporting you, while it crushes them, and they have laid their plans accordingly. You have so far had the benefit of my ability to know as no other can what the mortal mind of the student has in it, and to forewarn you, and being forewarned you ought to take the course that is safe and there is but one.

Yours As Written: Yous truly
Mary
