Will it be trespassing too much on your time & patience to send you a few lines, and ask a reply? A few months ago a wonderful cure was effected by Mr Sherman of Chicago the Metaphysician, under my own observation, calling my attention to the new treatment. Later – having received benefit from him myself – I decided to learn Metaphysics, & became a student of Mrs E. M. Coursen, whom you know as one of Dr C. W. Osgoods students.

The last few weeks I have given almost wholly to the study And though As Written: tho I can and do accept, the principle of the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, the truth of the nothingness of matter, the all-presence & power of God, & C.Editorial Note: Probably Christ Still I find so many things in your teachings that seem to do away with much that is very precious to me as the teaching of God’s As Written: Gods Word, such as Redemption by the shedding of the “precious blood of Christ.”I Pet 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; I Pet 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: – the Regeneration, the “Return of the Lord” & the Resurrection of the body, that I confess I am in great doubt & perplexity concerning the matter.

I am assurred by Mrs Coursen Mr Morrell & others who are teaching and practicing, that it is not necessary for me to relinquish any of these views in order to succeed They say that one has as good right as another to his views on these points, but I cannot see from your bookEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures how one can conscientiously teach it & practice it without accepting it fully.

Now I have paid my money which I could ill afford, hoping thus to enlarge my usefulness and you can hardly understand my disappointment and perplexity.

I have been “lifted up” by some things I have found in book & then again so “cast down”

The Lord has led me out from the bondage of “Orthodox Creeds” – to Himself alone - I am simply a Believer in Jesus, and sincerely desire to be more like Him who “went about doing good.”Acts 10:37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

I should like exceedingly to meet you & have the help which I doubt not you could give in understanding these things more fully. I have some regret that I did not go to Boston as I purposed at first to do – But was told it was unnecessary as I could be as well taught here, and felt that I could hardly afford the extra expense.

And now if you can give me a word of encouragement & advice it will be most gladly & gratefully received. I have been trying to use my little knowledge, but so far with slight success – Hoping for more light & power to benefit the suffering –
