Dear Brother,

Your favor rec'd. Mr Frye answered you yesterday, and I write to day. Your articleEditorial Note: See “Letter from Chicago” on page 6 of the September 1884 issue of The Christian Science Journal. has gone to press and will be ready for you in one week from Aug. 31st ie or Sept 6th I will then forward to you all the papers you order

Your article should have appeared in my last issue but so many contributor's articles had been put over they had to appear in that No., Hence the delay. Theirs had waited four and six months yours less.

Now were you not very imperative in your letter when you remember I gave you the instructions you received and would much more willingly have had you gone through the courseEditorial Note: A. J. Swarts only attended the last five days of Mary Baker Eddy’s May 1884 class, held in Chicago, Illinois., for then you would have been prepared thoroughly for your work

It would pay for you to come here and be finished

Your article for the paper had some statements foreign to divine scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, and if you teach them you will break the connectionAs Written:connexion in your statement that all is Spirit and there is no matter. I am anxious to do my part faithfully and if you will read what Ezekiel says of many pastors spoiling my people etc. Etc. You will see the need of due care being exercised over what you teach. I have the card of one of your scholars with this on it. “Treats by Message, Magnetism, medicated agencies” - while you advertise to be teaching Christian ScienceAs Written:science!

Now dear brother consistency is not only a jewelEditorial Note: “Consistency, thou art a jewel” is a quote sometimes attributed to William Shakespeare., but the imperative duty of a Christian ScientistAs Written:christian scientist especially, else, their theory and practice will be a kingdom divided against itself that cannot standMatt 12:22 ¶Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. Matt 12:23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? Matt 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. Matt 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: Matt 12:26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? Matt 12:27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. Matt 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Mark 3:22 ¶And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath
Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. Mark 3:23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? Mark 3:24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. Mark 3:25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. Mark 3:26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

I have laid the sure foundation of all my success in establishing so far the cause of Christian Science by strict adherence in my teachings and practice and writings to the one statement and its proof that all is Mind there is no matter! Hence no mixing with matter this is a purely divine science, that is mental, & not material in its methods. Nor is it mixed with spiritualism or any other ism. It precludes the possibility of one mind helping another so called mind, of individualized Spirit or one Spirit or Mind communing through or with another spirit or mind. Three persons in oneEditorial Note: This is probably a reference to the orthodox Christian doctrine of the Trinity., is not more of an error than the above! If, as it is, all is Spirit and Spirit is God then there are no finites or spirits, no individual mind, no other Mind but the one good, named God All is Spirit, not spirits all is God, not gods - all is Mind, not minds and God is reflected not individualized Spiritualists have more gods than any class of believers. Personal mind is either a finite or a material mind neither of which statement is true or is science. But I have no time to talk farther at this time If you let that Mind be yours which was ChristPhil 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: , then will you be like minded with me. Then you would not think of writing as your own, what is already written and is mine. Now my dear Brother I love you, but I love divine ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science better and shall defend every infringement of my works, for God, the good of the race bids me do it. I shall be pleased to have you give your time to the sale of my bookEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy., and introducing my paper if you will do it in the same spirit that I welcomed you to my teachings I am willing to pay you all I can afford Love to your wife
