Frances M. (Frances Matilda) Abbott (1857-1939) was born and died in Concord, New Hampshire. She was a suffragist, naturalist, historian, and genealogist. In 1881 she graduated from Vassar College, in Poughkeepsie, New York, becoming the first woman from Concord to earn a bachelor's degree. She held leadership positions in several suffrage organizations and frequently wrote on topics concerning suffrage and the importance of women's education for national publications. She also wrote prolifically on topics concerning nature, wildlife, and genealogy in her local area. In 1896 Abbott became the first editor of the Woman's Edition of the Concord Monitor newspaper. Also in 1896 she founded the Wild Flower Club, a naturalist organization, and in 1906 she wrote and published a naturalist guidebook titled Birds and Flowers about Concord, New Hampshire.
