Henry C. Allen (1829-1905) was born in Ellsworth, Maine, and died in Boston, Massachusetts. By 1850 he was living in Portland, Maine, and was a carpenter's apprentice. In 1854, in Portland, he married Harriett L. Allen (b. Gray) and by 1855 they had moved to Roxbury, Massachusetts, where Allen worked as a carpenter and then as a ship joiner. His first wife died in 1868, and in 1870 he married Addie M. Allen (b. Blodgett) in Boston where he continued working as a carpenter and builder. Allen and his wife applied to take Mary Baker Eddy's Primary class in 1886, both listing Pamelia J. Leonard (d. 1908), one of Eddy's students, as a reference. Allen's wife took the class in January 1887, but it does not appear that he ever did. Their daughter, Hattie M. Gardner (b. Allen), married Frank H. Leonard in Boston in 1887. He was the son of Pamelia J. Leonard. They divorced sometime prior to 1897.
