Mina B. Andrews (1865-1934) was born in Milltown, New Brunswick, Canada,
and died in Machias, Maine. She immigrated to the United States as a child and studied
at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Her mother, Elizabeth
"Lizzie" Andrews (b. Taylor), opened a dry goods store in Machias, and Andrews worked
there with her, carrying on as its proprietor after her mother's passing in 1907.
Andrews and her mother became interested in Christian Science in the late 1870s when her
mother was healed of a longstanding illness by reading
Science and
Health with Key to the Scriptures. Andrews wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1886
describing this healing and inquiring about studying Christian Science with her,
although the record does not indicate that she ended up doing so.
