Mary E. Armstrong

Mary E. Armstrong (c.1858-1937) was born in Carrollton, Illinois, and died in Boston, Massachusetts. She became interested in Christian Science in 1884 when she received Christian Science treatment through prayer from Silas J. Sawyer, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. In 1886, she studied Christian Science with Janet T. Colman, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. Afterwards she studied with Mary Baker Eddy, taking the Primary Class (1887) and Normal Class (1889). Armstrong joined the Christian Scientist Association in December 1887 and joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, on December 31, 1892. In 1892, after practicing Christian Science healing in the Midwest, Armstrong and her husband, Joseph Armstrong, moved to Boston, where Joseph served on the Christian Science Board of Directors (1893-1907) and as publisher of the writings of Mary Baker Eddy (1896-1907). In August 1898, she served in Eddy's household at Pleasant View for three weeks. Afterwards she returned to Boston and continued her work as a Christian Science practitioner, maintaining a listing in the directory of The Christian Science Journal until her passing.
