Benjamin T. Ashley (1858-1884) was born in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and
died in Taunton, Massachusetts. He became interested in Christian Science in late 1883,
when he received treatment from Clara E. Choate, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's.
Following his treatment by Choate, he made accusations against her and gave written
testimony that he had witnessed behavior that he considered "immoral for a married
woman." Ashley's testimony contributed to Choate's expulsion from the Church of Christ
(Scientist) and the Christian Scientist Association in January 1884.
