Benjamin T. Ashley (1858-1884) was born in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and died in Taunton, Massachusetts. He became interested in Christian Science in late 1883, when he received treatment from Clara E. Choate, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. Following his treatment by Choate, he made accusations against her and gave written testimony that he had witnessed behavior that he considered "immoral for a married woman." Ashley's testimony contributed to Choate's expulsion from the Church of Christ (Scientist) and the Christian Scientist Association in January 1884.
