Julius Ashman (? - ?) was a German-born elocutionist who specialized in
the study and cure of stammering. He developed a course of study to cure stammering and
worked out of the Battle Creek Sanitarium in Battle Creek, Michigan, which was purchased
by John Harvey Kellogg in 1876. Ashman was also an advocate for a "pure diet" centered
on barley and beans, stating that these two staples absorbed the most sunlight and
offered people the best chance of living a "higher spiritual soul-life."
