Mary Ann M. Baker (b. Moore) (1743-1835) was born in an unknown location
and died in Bow, New Hampshire. Her grandparents, John McNeil (1695-1768) and Christian
McNeil (b. Kenney), immigrated to America from Ireland around 1719, but the family
originally emigrated from Scotland to Ireland in the mid-1600s. She married Joseph Baker
Jr. around 1762 and they settled in Bow. Baker was the paternal grandmother of Mary
Baker Eddy. After her husband passed, she shared the Baker homestead with Eddy's
parents, Mark and Abigail A. Baker, and their family when Eddy was born. Using the Bible
as a lesson book, she taught Eddy to read.
