Rufus H. Baker (1870-1945) was born in Bow, New Hampshire, and died in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was Mary Baker Eddy's first cousin, twice removed. In 1896 he married Grace L. Baker (b. Tuck) in Seabrook, New Hampshire, and by 1900 they were living in Concord, New Hampshire, where Baker worked as an attorney. In 1898 Baker approached Eddy with the idea of producing a sketch of the Baker family farm in Bow, where Eddy was born and raised and which at one point Baker's father, John Baker, had also owned. Eddy endorsed the idea and collaborated with Baker on the details of the sketch. She was pleased with the final version that he presented her with in December 1899. She permitted etchings of the engraved sketch to be advertised for sale in both The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel.
