Samuel Dow Baker

Samuel D. Baker (1808-1868) was born in Bow, New Hampshire, and died in Charlestown, Massachusetts. He was Mary Baker Eddy's eldest brother. Baker worked as a mason and eventually left Bow for Boston, Massachusetts, to go into the building business and became a contractor. In 1832, he married Eliza Ann Glover, the sister of Eddy's first husband, George Washington Glover. After divorcing Eliza for desertion in 1857, he married Mary Ann Cook in 1858. In 1862, Samuel and Mary Ann escorted Eddy to Portland, Maine, to be treated by Phineas Parkhurst Quimby.
