Orpha J. Barr (b. Hartford) (1842-1924) was born in New York and died in Denver, Colorado. In 1860, she married Joseph T. Barr. He was a Civil War veteran, serving for Ohio. After the war, he was a carriage maker and the couple lived in Ohio. After her husband died in 1875, Barr remained in Ohio for a time but, by 1886, had relocated to Denver, Colorado. There she came into contact with Christian Science and was an associate of Minnie B. Hall De Soto, who wrote to Mary Baker Eddy that Barr wanted to take classes in Christian Science and then go into business as a practitioner with H. A. Heathwood, who was also in Denver at that time.
