George E. Batchelder (1832-?) was born in Salem, Massachusetts, and died
in Montclair, New Jersey. Batchelder was an active member of the Baptist church for over
50 years, serving as clerk of the Perkins Street Baptist Church in Somerville,
Massachusetts, during the early 1880s. Batchelder for many years worked for the Boston
and Maine Railroad, as a bookkeeper and treasurer. He resigned from the company in 1884
and moved to Lynnfield, Massachusetts. While living in Lynnfield he served as a
selectman, chairman of the new town hall building committee, and as deacon of his local
Baptist church. In about 1907 he moved to Montclair, New Jersey, to live with his
            daughter.
