Maria S. Belasco (b. Sainsbury) (1831-1900) was born in Barbados and died
in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She married William J. Shannon in Barbados in 1853. He
passed away in 1864, and she married Jacob W. Belasco in 1870. Jacob disappeared on the
voyage that brought the family from Barbados to Montreal in July 1879. Belasco's
daughters, Blanche, Constance and Clara, were all members of The First Church of Christ,
Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and Clara was also a student of Mary Baker Eddy's.
Although some of her children were active in the movement, we have found no further
information concerning Belasco's involvement with Christian Science.
