James Hamilton Bell (1839-1913) was born in New York and died in Chicago, Illinois. He worked as a merchant and dealer in spices. James and his wife, M. Bettie Bell, became interested in Christian Science in 1884 after hearing about the work being done by Christian Science practitioner Ellen Brown Linscott.
