Phillips Brooks

Phillips Brooks (1835-1893) was born and died in Boston, Massachusetts. He was an Episcopal clergyman who graduated from Harvard University (1855) and Virginia Theological Seminary (1859). Brooks was a renowned preacher and, in 1880, preached at Westminster Abbey and in front of Queen Victoria in her private chapel at Windsor Castle. He was the rector of Trinity Church in Boston from 1869 until 1891, when he became Bishop of Massachusetts. In 1885, he was gifted a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
