Jane S. Burnap (b. Skeel) (1815-1891) was born in Coxsackie, New York, and died in Marietta, Georgia. She married Gaius C. Burnap in New York City, New York, in 1841. He founded paper manufacturing firms in Brooklyn, New York, and Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and is credited with introducing gray cartridge paper for government use. The Burnaps moved to Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1870, and a few years later to Marietta, Georgia, where Gaius went into the banking business with his brother. In July 1886, Jane's son, George S. Burnap, wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to be sent to her. Based on the records available, we have found no further information concerning her involvement with Christian Science.
