Oren Carr (1841-1915) was born in West Newbury, Massachusetts, and died in Lynn, Massachusetts. During the Civil War, he served as a private in Company A of the Massachusetts 19th Regiment and was discharged on grounds of disability in 1863. After the war, he moved to Lynn, Massachusetts, where he worked as a carpenter in a shoe factory. He married Harriet Carr in Lynn on May 16, 1866. He was a charter member of the Church of Christ (Scientist); however, there are no records extant that show he studied with Mary Baker Eddy or was a member of the Christian Scientist Association. His name disappears from the Church records shortly after it was chartered and it appears that he left the Christian Science movement at about that time.
