Sophia Carr (1815-1901) was a lifelong resident of West Newbury, Massachusetts. She was the mother of Oren Carr and apparently one of the original members of the Church of Christ (Scientist).There are no records extant that show she studied with Mary Baker Eddy or was a member of the Christian Scientist Association. Records suggest that she attended early services at Parker Fraternity Hall. Her name disappears from the Church records shortly after it was chartered and it appears that she left the Christian Science movement at about that time.
