Mary W. Chamberlin (b. Ellmaker) (1842-1903) was born in Pennsylvania and died in Sterling, Illinois. Her family moved to Sterling in 1855. She worked as a milliner and married George Chamberlin, a confectioner and American Civil War veteran, in Ogle, Illinois, in 1866. They lived in Dunlap, Iowa, for a number of years before moving to Chicago, Illinois. Chamberlin was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chicago, Illinois. She joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 30, 1894. Chamberlin studied Christian Science with Alfred E. Baker, a student of Mary Baker Eddy. Although she intended to study with Eddy herself, there is no record of her doing so. Chamberlin moved back to Sterling in 1902.
