John R. Champlin (1836-1896) was born in Lebanon, Connecticut, and died
in Norwich, Connecticut. He was a farmer until 1864 when he moved to South Willington,
Connecticut, and started a textile manufacturing business with his brother-in-law,
Gardiner Hall Jr. He became interested in Christian Science in early 1886, writing to
Mary Baker Eddy to purchase a copy of
Science and Health with Key to
the Scriptures.
