George F. Chapman (1849-1925) was born in Shirley, Massachusetts, and
died in Stoughton, Massachusetts. He was a salesman who, in early 1885, expressed a keen
interest in Christian Science and wanted his wife, Mary E. Chapman, to study with Mary
Baker Eddy. Despite being unable to agree to terms with Eddy, he was still determined to
practice and promote Christian Science. Later in 1885, the Chapmans studied with Luther
M. Marston, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's.
