George B. Charles (1838-1908) was born in Massachusetts and died in Chicago, Illinois. He had several occupations before 1887, including teacher, author and sales agent. In 1885, he became a regular contributor to A. J. Swarts' periodical, The Mind Cure and Science of Life (later renamed Mental Science Magazine). Then in 1887, Charles founded the Illinois Metaphysical College, which he operated until his passing. He also founded its official publication, The Christian Metaphysician, which was published until about 1898. There is no record of Charles studying with Mary Baker Eddy or joining the Church of Christ (Scientist).
