Charles M. Chittenden (1841-1921) was born in New York and died in Lansing, Michigan. He was a Civil War veteran, serving as a fifer for Company D. of the 19th Michigan Infantry. After the war, he was a brick-layer and worked other jobs in construction. In about 1875, Chittenden married his first wife, Ione Chittenden (b. St. John). She died in 1902. In 1905, he married Ida F. Chittenden (b. Foster). In 1886, Chittenden wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
