Clara E. Choate (1850-1916) was taught jointly by Mary Baker Eddy and her husband, Asa G. Eddy, in February 1878. Choate also received Primary Class instruction from Mary Baker Eddy in August 1882. Eddy and her husband lived with the Choates in Boston during late 1879 and early 1880. Choate was a member and director of the Church of Christ (Scientist) until her expulsion in January 1884. After this, she continued her healing practice, as well as writing and lecturing on metaphysical healing. In 1887, she founded the Choate Metaphysical College in Boston. She was admitted to membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in November 1904 and remained a member until her passing in 1916.
