Luther Colby (1814-1894) was born in Amesbury, Massachusetts, and died in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1836 he moved to Boston and began his twenty-year connection to the Boston Daily Post, advancing from journeyman printer to night editor. In 1857 he became the first editor and a co-founder of Banner of Life, an American spiritualist journal published weekly between 1857 and 1907. He served in this position until his death in 1894. Colby was a member of the Veteran Spiritualists' Union and an honorary member of the Franklin Typographical Society.
