Joseph M. Copp (1818-1892) was born in Belmont, New Hampshire, and died in Plainwell, Michigan. He was married three times: first, in 1840, to Mary Ann Copp (b. Price), who died in 1850; second, in 1851, to Louisa F. Copp (b. Price), who died in 1852; and finally, later in 1852, to Marie A. Copp (b. Howe). In 1887 Otis wrote to Eddy to order a dozen copies of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and enclosed payment endorsed by Copp. Copp's sister Harriet "Hattie" S. Copp was healed through Christian Science treatment by Otis, an account of which was published in the January 1888 issue of The Christian Science Journal.
