Mary E. Darnell (b. Burnett) (1856-1943) was born in Haw Creek Township, Illinois, and died in Marionville, Missouri. She married Levi P. Darnell, a farmer, in 1877. They resided in Haw Creek and Maquon, Illinois. By 1900, they were living in Lyda, Missouri, and they eventually settled in Marionville. Darnell studied Christian Science with Janet T. Colman, a student of Mary Baker Eddy. She wrote to Eddy in 1887 to request one dozen copies of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Darnell was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Maquon, Illinois, and joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 29, 1894.
