Henry O. Dorr (1863-1897) was born and died in Gardiner, Maine. He
graduated from Gardiner High School in 1879 and from Bates College in 1883. He taught
school in Gardiner and in Camden, Maine, for several years before going into the
railroad business. He then did a stint as principal of Patten Academy in Patten, Maine,
but ill health forced him to retire to a quiet life on a farm in Gardiner. Dorr was a
member of the Gardiner city government for two terms. In 1887 he wrote to Mary Baker
Eddy to order a copy of
Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures.
