Clarence C. Eaton (1862-1917) was born in Watertown, Wisconsin, and died in Tacoma, Washington. He was a newspaper editor who owned and published the Columbus Democrat and at one point worked for the Watertown Democrat. While in Columbus, Wisconsin, he also worked as superintendent of schools. He married Julia J. Eaton (b. Ford) in Watertown in 1884, and the couple studied Christian Science with Mary Brookins, a student of Mary Baker Eddy. Eaton retired from newspaper work in 1899 to dedicate himself to Christian Science. The Eatons moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where they were members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Clarence served as Second Reader. They both joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 2, 1900.
In June 1901 Eaton took the Normal class taught by Edward A. Kimball in the Board of Education of the First Church of Christ, Scientist. In 1902 the Eatons moved to Tacoma. They became members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Tacoma, Washington, where Clarence served as First Reader. Eaton became a member of the General Association of Teachers in 1904, and that November he was appointed to The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, lecturing and serving on the board until his death. He authored Christian Science: The True Christianity (1914). Eaton was listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science practitioner and teacher in Tacoma from 1903 until his death. In 1903 and 1904 he was also listed as principal of the Tacoma Institute of Christian Science.
