Temperance Edmundson (1821-1910) was born in Pennsylvania and died in
Iowa. Edmundson, alongside her daughter, Mary, became interested in Christian Science in
about 1886. Edmundson was one of the early pioneers of Christian Science in Newton,
Iowa, hosting Christian Science church services at her home with her daughter acting as
First Reader. In December 1894, Edmundson joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist,
in Boston, Massachusetts, and was a member until her passing. In addition to being a
member of The Mother Church, she was an active member of the Christian Science community
in Newton.
