Isaac N. Felch (1815-1870) was born in Limerick, Maine, and died in Hollis, Maine. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1838 and after graduation moved to Belfast, Maine, to study law. While living in Belfast he began his career as a newspaper editor, editing The Progressive Age and then the Waldo Signal. From 1860-1865, he was the editor of the Evening Courier (Portland, Maine) and during this period the newspaper published several articles that were critical of Phineas Parkhurst Quimby. On November 7, 1862, Mary Baker Eddy had a letter endorsing Quimby published in the Evening Courier.
