Lizzie L. Filbert (1855-1912) was born in Springfield, Illinois, and died in Los Angeles, California. She married John P. Filbert, a grocer, in 1874. She first wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1885 after being a patient of Jennie B. Fenn's, one of Eddy's students. Filbert went on to become a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, completing her Primary class at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College in March 1886. That same year, her husband sold his business and they both became full-time Christian Science teachers and practitioners listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal until each of their deaths. In 1892, the family moved to Los Angeles, and were involved with starting First Church of Christ, Scientist, Los Angeles, California, in October 1901. Both Filberts joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 30, 1894, and were members of the National Christian Scientist Association.
