Stephen H. Gage (c. 1846-1923) was born in New York and died in Montclair, New Jersey. In 1884 he worked as a manager at Brigham, Bishop, and Co. in New Haven, Connecticut, and by 1887 he co-owned a stock brokerage named S. H. Gage & Co. in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Gage wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1887 to request a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and for a Christian Science practitioner recommendation. In 1888 he advertised as a Christian Scientist and mental physician in the local paper. He married Lucy P. Gage (b. Peabody) in New London, Connecticut, in 1897. By 1910 he was working as an insurance agent in New York, New York. He had moved to Montclair by 1920.
