Martha A. Gaylord (b. Converse) (1838-1912) was born in Massachusetts and died in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her family moved to Randolph, Wisconsin, when she was a child, and she later married Edward W. Gaylord, a railroad agent, in 1864. By 1870 they were living in Minnesota. Gaylord studied Christian Science with Mary Brookins, a student of Mary Baker Eddy, and joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 6, 1895. In June 1901 she took the Normal class taught by Edward A. Kimball in the Board of Education of the First Church of Christ, Scientist. She was a member of the General Association of Teachers and of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Gaylord was listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science teacher and practitioner in Minneapolis from 1897 until her death. She wrote and read "A Paper on Christian Science" before The Women's Council in Minneapolis in 1894 and authored the pamphlet If Ye Abide in Me (1903).
