Josephine L. Griswold (b. Houghteling) (1864-1937) was born in Chicago, Illinois, and died in Santa Barbara, California. In 1889 she married A. Cass Canfield, an engineer, yachtsman, and yacht designer, in San Francisco, California. He died in 1904, and in 1907 she married F. Gray (Frank Gray) Griswold, 1854-1937, in London, England. A prominent member of New York society, he was a financier, sportsman, clubman, and the author of several books on topics relating to sportsmanship. The couple lived in Manhattan, New York. Griswold was a prominent socialite and was one of the principal organizers and a member of the Board of Governors of the Colony Club. She avidly pursued her interests in hunting, horses, driving, and yachting. In 1886 Griswold wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. She died in Santa Barbara while on an extended visit there.
