William Hammond (c.1844-?) was born in Canada and died in an unknown
location. Hammond became interested in Christian Science in early 1886 and came to
Boston in March 1886 to study at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. However, he
only completed one lesson at the College and did not graduate. Later he was accused of
being a bigamist, fraud, and murderer. Newspaper accounts of his arrest in New Orleans,
Louisiana, in 1896 detail a litany of crimes that stretched from Hawaii to Maine.
Despite the accusations he was released without charge, but told to leave New Orleans.
After leaving New Orleans he continued to move around the United States and
Canada.
