Norman F. Hazen (1841-1911) was born in Hartford, Vermont, and died in California. He married Mary A. Hazen (b. Aiken) in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1865, and by 1870 they were living in Windsor, Vermont. By 1880, they were living in Colorado, and they would remain there for the next few decades. Hazen was a farmer and veteran of the American Civil War, serving in the Union Army in Company E. of the 50th Regiment, Illinois Infantry. After the war, he worked as a druggiest and later served as a bailiff in the federal courts of Denver. Hazen was a member of The Grand Army of the Republic and The Knights Templar. He studied Christian Science with Minnie B. Hall De Soto, a student of Mary Baker Eddy. Although his wife was a Christian Science practitioner and a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, Hazen was not.
