John I. Herrick (1819-1906) was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and
died in Mauston, Wisconsin. In 1860, he was ordained as a minister in the Church of the
New Jerusalem and ministered for New Church societies in the Chicago, Illinois, area. He
later removed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he began practicing as a homeopath. Later
in the mid-1880s, while living in Mauston, records suggest he began practicing as a
"mental physician." There is no record of Herrick studying with Mary Baker Eddy or
uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist).
