Abigail E. Holmes (1816-1857) was born in Peterborough, New Hampshire, and died in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Holmes, who owned a cotton mill in Sanbornton Bridge (now Tilton), New Hampshire. Holmes married Edward A. Damon, a merchant. She was the older sister of Augusta Holmes Swasey, a school friend of Mary Baker Eddy's.
