Joanna C. Homer (b. Churchill) (1864-1935) was born in Yarmouth, Nova
Scotia, Canada, and died in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. In 1878, she married Fitz H. Homer,
a confectioner, in Yarmouth. Along with George E. Crowell, Fitz started a confectionary
manufacturing business called Crowell & Homer in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the
1880s. While in Cambridge, Homer became involved with Christian Science. The couple
eventually returned to Nova Scotia. Homer joined the Church of Christ (Scientist) in
March 1886 and later joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts, in June 1906. She continued practicing Christian Science until her
death.
