James C. Howard (c.1850-1928) was a charter member and the first Treasurer of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. Some of the early meetings of the College were held at his residence at 10 Atherton Street in Boston. He was also a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, studying with her in February 1880. Howard was an active member of the Christian Scientist Association and the Church until his resignation, along with eight other students, in October 1881. The remaining members of the Association voted to expel Howard at a meeting held on November 9, 1881, for conspiring against Mary Baker Eddy and for fraud and falsehood.
