
Charles Marsh Howe (1849-1934) was born in North Brookfield,
Massachusetts, and died in Los Angeles, California. He married Sarah D. Howe (b. Cutter)
in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1872. They resided in Boston, Massachusetts, and Howe
worked as a pharmacist. Howe and his wife both took the Primary class in Christian
Science from Mary Baker Eddy in December 1884, and his wife went on to take Eddy's
Normal class in 1886. They both joined the Church of Christ (Scientist) in Boston in
1885 and were members of the Christian Scientist Association and the National Christian
Scientist Association. They moved to San Francisco in 1887. Howe was listed as a
practitioner in The Christian Science Journal from 1885 to 1909, and his wife was listed
from 1885 to 1923. Both joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, on October
3,1896. They were also members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, San Francisco, and
Howe served as Reader in the late 1890s. He gave a dedicatory address upon the opening
of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Oakland, California, in 1902. Sometime after his
wife's passing in 1923 he moved to Los Angeles.
