Malinda J. Lancaster (1841-1919) was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky, and died in Lexington, Kentucky. She married George Lancaster, a supplier of dry goods, in 1864. Lancaster was a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, completing the Primary class (1886), Normal class (1887), and Obstetrical course (1888). In 1887 Lancaster and Francis J. Fluno, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's who became a Christian Science practitioner, established the Kentucky Academy of Christian Science. Lancaster was also a Christian Science practitioner, first listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal as Mrs. George Lancaster for the Kentucky Academy of Christian Science in 1890, 1894, and 1895, and later as Malinda J. Lancaster from 1906 until 1917. On December 29, 1894, she joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and was a member until her passing. Lancaster was a member of the National Christian Scientist Association. She was the sister of M. Bettie Bell, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, who contributed to the early growth of Christian Science in Chicago, Illinois and was a founding member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chicago (1886).
