Emma L. Baird (b. Lane) (c. 1859-?) was born in Lockport, Illinois, and died in an unknown location. By 1870, her family had moved to Chicago, Illinois. Baird studied Christian Science with Hannah A. Larminie, a student of Mary Baker Eddy, in July 1886 and was a member of the Church of Christ (Scientist). Baird later became a student of Eddy herself, completing her Normal class in October 1887. Baird was a member of the Christian Scientist Association and the National Christian Scientist Association. Along with Mary F. Purple, who was also a student of Eddy, Baird taught Christian Science Sunday School in 1888. The pair wished to start a Christian Science Institute in Chicago along with another one of Eddy's students, Ruth B. Ewing. Although they had Eddy's blessing, the project did not come to fruition. Baird married Silas J. Baird, a dentist, in Chicago in 1890. It seems as though Baird left Christian Science around this time. By 1900, the Bairds were living in Warren, Ohio, followed by Youngstown, Ohio, by 1910. By 1930, Baird was living with her son and daughter-in-law in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and was still living with them there in 1940.
