Henry P. Lane (1858-1918) was born in Indiana and died in Upland, California. He grew up on a farm before entering Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. After four years of study, he completed another four years at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. He married Marie Lane (b. Vaux) in 1888 while attending the seminary. After graduating, he served as a Presbyterian minister in the suburbs of Chicago, followed by Quincy, Michigan; Jonesville, Michigan; San Diego, California; and Phoenix, Arizona. He later served at the Third Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles, California, for three years and in Upland for eight years. He had to give up the ministry due to ill health, but after a few years he took it up again in Van Nuys, California, where he served for four years. After Marie passed away in 1898, Lane married Helen M. Lane (b. Greenleaf), an artist, in Upland in 1914. It was the second marriage for both of them. In 1887 Lane wrote to Eddy with an interest in studying at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College; however, there is no record of him doing so.
