Mary T. Lathrap (b. Torrans) (1838-1895) was born and died in Jackson, Michigan. She was a teacher, preacher, author, lecturer, suffragist, and temperance reformer. In the early 1860s she taught in the Detroit public schools, and in 1864 she married Carnett C. Lathrap, a lumber merchant. In 1870 she co-founded Michigan's suffrage organization, and in 1871 she became a preacher and evangelist in the Methodist Episcopal church. She was one of the co-founders of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, serving as president of the Michigan Union for the last 14 years of her life. She also authored several published poems, articles, and speeches, primarily on social reform topics.
