John Carroll Lathrop (1871-1941) was born in South Haven, Michigan, and died
in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was the son of Laura V. Lathrop, a student of Mary Baker
Eddy's. John Carroll Lathrop took Primary class instruction from his mother and also
attended the November 1898 Normal class given by Mary Baker Eddy. He joined The First
Church of Christ, Scientist, in April 1895, and he was a Christian Science practitioner
and teacher listed in the directory of
The Christian Science
Journal from 1897 to 1910 in New York, New York, then from 1911 to 1915 in Boston, Massachusetts, and then from 1916 to 1941 in Brookline. From May 1903 until February 1908, he
served at various intervals in Mary Baker Eddy's household. In 1911, he was elected as
First Reader of The Mother Church, and then in 1914, he was elected as its President. He
served on the Christian Science Board of Lectureship from 1918 to 1924.
