Orvis Lathrop (c.1840-1884) was born in Montpelier, Vermont, and died in Freeport, Illinois. He was a lawyer who practiced in South Haven, Michigan, and Freeport, Illinois. He was the husband of Laura V. Lathrop and father of John Carroll Lathrop, both of whom were active in the Christian Science movement for many years. There is no record of Orvis Lathrop studying with Mary Baker Eddy or uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist).
